His Story
Travis "Rip" Westover, age 48, passed away on November 30, 2024, at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho. His death resulted from complications from pneumonia and encephalitis. He was a resident of Clifton, Idaho.
He was born October 1, 1976, in Logan, Utah, to Val D Westover and LaRee Hunt Westover. He spent his childhood in Logan until the family moved to Clifton when he was about 2.
He enjoyed growing up on the farm in Clifton. He learned how to work and work hard following his dad and brother as they took care of animals and all the work associated with the farm. By this time, Val was involved in metal construction, so Travis learned how to do a man's job at a young age. In the winter, he enjoyed sledding on the hills; in the summer, when there was a little time off, he enjoyed swimming at Twin Lakes.
He met Megan Jean Cox while attending school in Rexburg. Megan was working at Logan, and they met at a dance. They were married on September 8, 2006, in Fairview, Idaho.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was currently serving as a temple and family history consultant.
Travis was self-employed in steel construction. He was talented in building hay sheds, shops, cow sheds, and various farm buildings. He was also involved in bridge construction, a talented farm mechanic, and basically a man for any job that needed to be done. He had the unique ability to look at a problem, figure out a solution, and make things work better than before.
When COVID hit, and help became scarce, Travis learned to construct these huge buildings single-handedly, only asking for help when sheeting a building and the tin was too long to carry alone. He always found a way to accomplish what needed to be done and enjoyed working independently.
As anyone who has been to the house knows, Travis had a sense of humor. A recent favorite joke is the sign at the entrance of their house, which leaves you wondering if you're at the front or the back door and where you should be going.
Travis enjoyed horses, hunting, guns, motorcycles, some scuba diving, and the mountains. He also liked cooking food indoors or outdoors for the family. Family was important to Travis; he enjoyed visiting, encouraging, and solving the world's problems with friends and family.
Reflection
By: Travis Westover
I look in the mirror, and what do I see?
Who is this person staring back at me.
We look in a mirror to see who we are.
A stranger looks back, so near yet so far.
Two people staring, identical they.
Which one is which? It's hard to say.

Am I actually a person, or just the projection?
Which one are we, real or a simple reflection?
If you want to know who you are,
Let me gift you a clue.
Your soul is a mirror, that much is true.
What you see in others is a reflection of you.
